The Eagles faced a tough afternoon against Westfield Sole, coming away with a 3-1 defeat despite creating numerous opportunities, particularly down the right wing through the tireless efforts of Callum Kemp. Unfortunately, the final product was lacking, and they couldn’t convert their chances.
The match took a difficult turn within the first 35 minutes, when a collision between J. Clark and N. Cooper resulted in both players headbutting each other. This forced them off the pitch, and we wish both Cooper and Jason a speedy recovery.
Westfield Sole took advantage of their chances, scoring two goals before halftime. The first was a well-taken effort, but the second came as a result of a defensive mix-up between K. Howard and T. Williams, leaving the Eagles with work to do.
Rochester Eagles began the second half with purpose, pushing forward to try and claw their way back into the game. However, disaster struck when Williams, attempting to clear a cross, inadvertently headed the ball into his own net, making it 3-0 to Westfield Sole.
A.Copp’s injury forced a tactical reshuffle, with Callum Kemp moving to left-back. A quick-thinking throw-in found Callum Jeffreys, who then set up Jack Vince to score a consolation goal for the Eagles.
Despite the defeat, Kemp’s relentless energy and adaptability earned him the Man of the Match award. His constant threat down the right and willingness to step into a defensive role showed his importance to the team.
